Providing economic opportunities to rural women in Bangladesh
A business model designed to maximize profits while maximizing benefits to society and the environment.
Beautiful toys, dignified employment
In 2004 Samantha, the founder of Pebble, started teaching 12 rural women in Bangladesh to knit from her spare room. Pebble now sell beautiful baby and children toys in 34 countries – supporting over 10,000 women across rural Bangladesh to learn a craft and secure work to support their families and local community.
Keeping families together is incredibly important to Pebble, and by providing rural employment opportunities, with childcare facilities, women don’t need to travel to earn an income.
As a registered Fair Trade organisation, Pebbles auditing processes ensure safety and wage requirements are being met. The artisans who make Pebble’s products in Bangladesh are paid double that of the average wage in garment factories across Bangladesh.
