Firetree prioritise close and long lasting relationships with the farmers who grow their cocoa beans, paying them above market price and working in partnerships to carefully manage the land to avoid over farming.

A true bean to bar chocolate from remote oceanic islands, creating a rich volcanic chocolate with its own unique taste – a chocolate to be savoured!

Firetree chocolate starts life on the small islands found in the ‘Pacific Ring of Fire’ – remote islands of the southern Pacific and Oceania regions. This is where you find the firetree, or cocoa tree. It thrives on the rich, porous volcanic soil that is found on these islands. Along with the volcanic island of Madagascar, they supply just 1% of the worlds chocolate (compared with two thirds of the worlds chocolate being sourced from Ivory Coast and Ghana) giving you an idea of just how unique this chocolate is.

Firetree only work with single estates to source their cocoa. Individual farms so they know exactly how their cocoa is farmed, and who works on the farm. The Firetree team know their farmers by name and visit them yearly – building long lasting relationships  and testing the cocoa at source.

Farmers are paid two to three times the average market price to acknowledge the true partnerships involved in the creation of Firetree chocolate. Every stage of growing, harvesting, fermenting and drying is carried out in partnership. Increased time is spent farming the crops, and the land is managed so that it is not over farmed, and provides a long lasting and sustainable source of excellent cocoa, and income for the local community.

Solomon Islands Guadalcanal 69% The coast of Guadalcanal, nestled in the heart of the Solomon Islands, is home to some of the finest cocoa from this region. The cocoa trees grow in this rich volcanic soil, protected from the midday sun beneath high coconut palms. Their beans encapsulate enduring cocoa undertones overlaid with red fruits, citrus and delicate plum notes.

Cocoa solids: 69% minimum

  Solomon Islands Makira Island 75% The second Solomon Island to feature on our collection of Firetree chocolate, the remote island of Makira. With its rich volcanic soil – Makira Island provides a cocoa bean that has a rich and complex flavour enhanced by gentle hints of grapefruit, raisin and caramel overtones

  Vanuata Malekula Island 72% Almost all the cocoa grown in Vanuatu comes from this one island: Malekula. This sparsely populated island is a two-day boat journey from the capital of Port Vila. But the rich volcanic soil here yields a cocoa bean with a complex flavour and hints of cherry, white grape and soft lemon that makes the journey worthwhile.

  Madagascar Sambirano Valley 84% On the north-west coast of Madagascar lies the Sambirano Valley, with the sea to the west and volcanic hills to the east. Its warm, humid micro-climate and rich volcanic soil makes it the ideal place for growing this single estate cocoa, giving the beans a distinctive hint of raspberry and red fruit overtones.
